Backlink Pilot is a free link-building CRM for agencies: manage your partners and clients, and it checks your links on auto-pilot. The free plan is generous (500 links, unlimited partners and clients), and on design and feature breadth it holds its own against the paid tools here. This isn't a clearly weaker product. The narrower issue is the monitoring: the free tier only checks monthly, the $50 plan doesn't say how often it checks at all, and there's no index checking, authority metrics, or alerts beyond the basics. It's also a free companion tool from the Service Provider Pro team, so backlink monitoring isn't its core roadmap. If you need monitoring that's faster and more detailed, or a more capable CRM, here are seven alternatives.
Each tool is ranked, priced from its own pricing page, and has an interactive demo you can open without an account. LinkWatchr is ours, so it leads, but the list is honest about where another tool wins, including where Backlink Pilot's free plan is hard to beat.
Prices and limits below come from each tool's official pricing page on the last-updated date. SaaS pricing moves, so confirm on the vendor's site before you buy.
A few common reasons. None of them knock its free plan. They're about the monitoring:
Keep this as the thing you're comparing against. It imports existing links via CSV, and the free plan is the draw:
| Plan | Price | Links | Check frequency | Partners / Clients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 500 | Monthly only | Unlimited / Unlimited |
| Paid | $50/mo | 5,000 | Not stated | Unlimited / Unlimited |
Support: no public support email is listed. Read any tool's data and privacy pages before you load your backlink portfolio into it, ours included.
The entry price below is the entry plan billed monthly. BacklinkCRM and BacklinkManager are link-building CRMs (sized by partnerships or backlink counts), so their entry columns read a little differently.
| # | Tool | Best at | Backlinks on entry plan | Free plan | Entry price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | LinkWatchr | Real monitoring with custom columns and workspaces | Unlimited (credit-based) | Trial: 1,000 credits | $13/mo |
| 2 | BacklinkCRM | A free link-building CRM with cheap paid tiers | n/a (partnerships) | Yes (free plan) | $19/mo |
| 3 | Linkody | Monitoring with Moz metrics and white-label reports | 500 | 30-day trial | $14.90/mo |
| 4 | BacklinkMonitor.com | Cheapest simple monitor, free plan and Slack | 20 (free) / 500 | Yes (20 links) | $11.99/mo |
| 5 | BacklinkManager | A more built-out link-building CRM | 50 (free) / 200 | Yes (50 links) | $49/mo |
| 6 | BacklinkMonitor.co | Many links per dollar, with index checking | 2,500 | 20-link trial | $15/mo |
| 7 | LinkWatcher.io | Monitoring plus a guest-post marketplace | 25 (free) / 500 | Yes (25 links) | $29/mo |
LinkWatchr is a dedicated monitor, so the checking Backlink Pilot does loosely is the whole point here, on a frequency you control, and its custom columns let you keep partner and cost notes like a light CRM.
| Plan | Monthly ($/mo) | Yearly ($/mo) | Credits/mo | Workspaces | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $13 | $10 | 10,000 | 1 | 3 |
| Growth | $36 | $29 | 30,000 | 3 | 6 |
| Scale | $99 | $79 | 80,000 | 10 | 20 |
| Agency | Custom | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Pay-as-you-go is also an option: $9 per 10,000 credits, valid a full year. A link check is 1 credit; an index check is 20 credits per URL.
Backlink Pilot's free plan covers 500 links at $0 with unlimited partners and clients; LinkWatchr's free offering is a 14-day trial, not a forever-free tier. And it isn't a partnership pipeline, so if managing partners and clients is the main job, a CRM (BacklinkCRM or BacklinkManager below) fits better.

Set a check frequency per project, see what's indexed, and track partners in custom columns.
BacklinkCRM is the closest like-for-like: another link-building CRM with a free plan, plus cheap paid tiers if you outgrow it.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly ($/mo) | Partnerships / Partners | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 100 / 50 | 3 |
| Starter | $19 | $15.83 | 300 / 300 | 20 |
| Growth | $59 | $49.17 | 1,000 / 1,000 | 50 |
| Scale | $129 | $107.50 | 5,000 / 5,000 | 1,000 |
Backlink Pilot's free plan has unlimited partners and clients, where BacklinkCRM's free tier caps partners at 50. And like Backlink Pilot, its monitoring depth is thin: check frequency, alert types, and index checking aren't clearly stated, so confirm those if monitoring matters.
Support: via the contact page or book a demo.
Linkody is a focused monitor with the metrics and client reports Backlink Pilot's basic monitoring leaves out.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly ($/mo) | Links | Domains | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Webmaster | $14.90 | $11.20 | 500 | 2 | 1 |
| Advanced | $24.90 | $18.70 | 2,000 | 5 | 1 |
| Pro | $49.90 | $37.40 | 5,000 | 20 | 3 |
| Agency | $99.90 | $74.90 | 20,000 | 50 | 5 |
| Agency XL | $153.90 | $115.40 | 50,000 | 100 | 10 |
No partnership CRM, so it won't manage partners and clients the way Backlink Pilot does. The cadence is a fixed 24 hours, and there's no free forever plan.
Support: support@linkody.com or the help center.
BacklinkMonitor.com is a simple, dedicated monitor with a free plan and Slack alerts, faster and clearer than Backlink Pilot's monthly checks.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly ($/mo) | Links | Domains | Users | Slack |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | n/a | 20 | 1 | 1 | ✗ |
| Starter | $11.99 | $9.99 | 500 | 1 | 1 | ✗ |
| Pro | $29.99 | $24.99 | 2,000 | 6 | 3 | ✓ |

| Agency Plus | $99.00 | $79.08 | 15,000 | 50 | 15 | ✓ |
| Agency Pro | $179.00 | $141.58 | 40,000 | 100 | 35 | ✓ |
No partnership CRM, no index checking, no metrics, and no custom columns. It's a monitor, not a CRM.

BacklinkManager is a more built-out link-building CRM, the capable end of the partnership-management category.
| Plan | Monthly ($/mo) | Annual ($/mo) | Backlinks | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 50 | 1 |
| Starter | $49 | $39 | 200 | 3 |
| Growth | $119 | $99 | 1,000 | 10 |
| Scale | $299 | $249 | 5,000 | 20 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | 10,000+ | Unlimited |
Far pricier per link (200 links at $49/mo vs Backlink Pilot's 5,000 at $50), and its data policy shares both anonymised and non-anonymised usage data with partners.

BacklinkMonitor.co (a different company from BacklinkMonitor.com above) is a dedicated monitor that gives a lot of links per dollar and includes index checking.
| Plan | Monthly ($/mo) | Yearly ($/mo) | Backlinks | Domains | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $15 | $12.50 | 2,500 | 20 | 1 |
| Advance | $29 | $24.17 | 4,000 | 35 | 1 |
| Pro | $49 | $40.83 | 11,000 | 130 | 5 |

| Agency Plus | $149 | $124.17 | 55,000 | 2,000 | 5 |
There's no ongoing free plan, but you can crawl 20 backlinks free to try it before paying.
No partnership CRM, and like Backlink Pilot's free tier it checks weekly or monthly rather than daily, with email alerts only and link discovery as a paid add-on.
Support: no general support email is published; privacy requests go to privacy@backlinkmonitor.co.
LinkWatcher.io pairs real monitoring with a guest-post marketplace, keyword rank tracking, and a client access portal.

| Freelancer | $29 | $24.17 | 500 | 4 | 1 |

The paid entry is $29/mo (Backlink Pilot's free tier covers more links), and the check cadence isn't documented.

Match it to what you need most:
Backlink Pilot is a capable, well-built CRM, and its free plan is a good deal for managing link-building partnerships. If you mostly need a CRM and can live with slow checks, it's hard to argue with free. The case for switching is monitoring: if you need to catch a dropped link fast, see whether it's indexed, and track it with real alerts, a dedicated tool like LinkWatchr does that, with custom columns to keep your partner notes alongside. The trial runs 14 days (support@linkwatchr.com if you hit a wall).
For real monitoring with custom fields and a separate workspace per client, LinkWatchr is the strongest pick. To stay on a free link-building CRM with cheaper paid tiers, BacklinkCRM. For monitoring with Moz metrics and white-label reports, Linkody.
Its free plan checks monthly, and it doesn't state the check frequency on its $50 plan. If you need faster checks, LinkWatchr lets you set daily-to-monthly per project, and Linkody and BacklinkMonitor.com check more frequently by default.
Yes. BacklinkCRM and BacklinkManager have free CRM plans, BacklinkMonitor.com (20 links) and LinkWatcher.io (25 links) have free monitors, and LinkWatchr offers a 14-day trial with 1,000 credits and no card.
It's a link-building CRM first, with monitoring as a secondary feature: monthly checks on the free plan, an unstated cadence on the paid plan, and no index checking or authority metrics. For monitoring as the main job, a dedicated tool does more.
Usually for monitoring: slow or undocumented check frequency, no index checking or metrics, and no Slack alerts. The tool itself is well made, but it's a free companion to Service Provider Pro, so monitoring isn't where its roadmap focuses.
